Sing-Along Messiah

December 4, 2016 at 3:00 pm

Free

The Fox Valley Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra will join forces with guest soloists and the community from the greater Fox Valley area to sing together the choruses from George Frederic Handel’s “Do-It-Yourself” Messiah and other holiday music.

The Philharmonic’s concert performance will include the “Christmas Section” of Messiah along with the famous “Hallelujah Chorus”. Adding support to the do-it-yourself audience will be the Philharmonic Chorus with Choirmaster, John Douglas. This is the Fox Valley area’s 6th annual “Do-It-Yourself” performance.

This joyous event is not only for the DIY audience. Those wishing to get in the Christmas spirit are welcome to come listen to the glorious sounds of Christmas music.

Admission to the concert is free, but, in the tradition established by Handel’s 1742 premier performance for the benefit of the Irish “debtor’s prison,” donations are welcome, and proceeds from the Messiah concert will benefit LifeSpring Ministries in Aurora. The performance takes place at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 420 West Downer Place, Aurora. (A parking lot is behind the church on Garfield Ave.). Those singing along can bring, borrow, or buy the choral part of Messiah at the door ($10 per book or refundable deposit). After the concert, there will be a reception with refreshments in Our Savior’s Parish House.

The Philharmonic Orchestra is an affiliate of the Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance. The Academy orchestras will also be performing Christmas favorites and other classical works at a Holiday Concert at 12:30pm. Both concerts are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
