KATHERYN BARRETT-BROWN has been singing and playing violin with the Fox Valley Philharmonic almost since its inception. Ms. Barrett-Brown studied music at DePaul University where among other honors she was selected for Catherine Malfitano’s “Revealing the Singer/Actor Within” class. Ms. Barrett-Brown has worked with ensembles such as the Minnesota Chorale and the Grant Park Chorus while under the direction of Christopher Bell. She is a distinguished interpreter of contemporary arts songs by composers such as Poulenc and Barber. She studied and continues to study with Elizabeth Gottlieb. Ms. Barrett-Brown has also performed for many churches in the Chicagoland area and teaches private voice and violin. She spent three years directing the Chancel Choir at River Glen Presbyterian Church in Naperville, and also directed music at Four Winds Waldorf School. Ms. Barrett-Brown loves teaching young people. She lives in Aurora with her incredibly supportive husband Jim, and their four children.
