Christine Kefer

My textiles are contemporary, handwoven tapestries, rugs and wallpieces, individually designed with sensitivity to architectural context. Embellishment and finishing techniques are by hand.

Each adds warmth, vitality, a colorful focal point, and facilitates the expression of the client’s taste and personality.

I have been designing and weaving more than 28 years and continue to work in traditional and non-traditional fiber techniques.

Research in historic textiles, graphic design of the past century, and architecture continue to hold my interest, and perhaps influence my work.

The densely interwoven cultural and human histories of my family and their spontaneous, thoughtful and happy natures, help shape, direct and inspire my creative process.

Currently, my projects involve de-constructing the woven cloth when removed from the loom in an effort to design a surface that changes in texture and line.
