Marge Hall“When approached to participate in the Painted Violin Fund Raiser, I immediately thought of my late father, Herman Wiegman, who was a professional musician. He certainly would have thought this was a clever idea. Being a musician myself, I can appreciate the merging of two creative endeavors. I’m honored to have the opportunity to contribute to this project.” Marge Hall, a native of Chicago, IL, has lived in Winfield, IL, since 1971. She earned her degree in Commercial Art from Southern Illinois University’s Vocational Technical Institute in 1966 and worked as Art Director for a packaging company in Aurora, IL. Marge put her painting career on hold to raise four boys, but managed to teach oil painting classes at the DuPage Art League in Wheaton, IL. She also taught five years at the College of DuPage and presently teaches three oil painting classes at the DuPage Art League. In 1992 she took a two-day oil painting workshop that led her to her large Floral Portraits. “It was like a duck to water – I found something I really loved”. The key to these extraordinary paintings begins with her high contrast reference photographs. Her old 35mm camera has served her well and several shoeboxes of photos are categorized by color and species of flowers just waiting to be painted. The image is enlarged onto a wrap-around canvas with a water color pencil. Then several thin layers of paint are applied until an almost luminous flower appears. It is not unusual for Marge to spend more than sixty hours on a painting. “There is nothing more challenging or exciting to me than to capture the light”. Marge participates in seasonal art fairs throughout the summer. She has been awarded Best of Show, Peoples Choice and Award of Excellence in numerous prestigious exhibits. Plus, she has had several “one woman” shows. Marge’s Floral Portraits can be seen at http://www.MargeHall.com Marge especially likes working with clients on commissions. It is satisfying to create the perfect flower (color, shape, size, etc) to fit a client’s specific needs. “I hope my paintings make you feel good. Remember to take time in your life to smell the flowers. Enjoy!” Marge may be reached through her website |
