After a couple years, he took time off to pursue his love of woodworking, and apprenticed himself to a master furniture builder in Alma, Wisconsin. He later returned to school to study architecture at the University of Oregon, where he earned his degree. After many years of working for major architectural firms in Denver and the Chicago area, Lane started his own architectural firm in Batavia, now known as Allen+Pepa Architects. From childhood, Lane has had a love of the traditional Japanese art of paperfolding called origami. In recent years he has developed techniques for producing origami in metal and using it as a basis for large-sized sculpture. He sees many correlations between the geometries of origami and those in architecture. His origami work can be seen at www.origamilane.com. |
