The Fox Valley Philharmonic will perform music by both Leopold Mozart and Wolfgang Mozart
on May 2 at 3:00 PM in the Crimi Auditorium at Aurora University. The program will feature Thomas and Tricia
Jostlein as guest soloists and is entitled “The Mozarts: Father and Son Music.”
Thomas Jostlein is currently assistant professor of horn at the University of Illinois
and the former assistant principal horn of the New York Philharmonic. Mr. Jostlein will be the featured
soloist on Leopold Mozart’s “Sinfonia for Alphorn and Strings.” Alphorn? That’s right. . .as in the Ricola
television commercials. Jostlein and the orchestra will also perform the “Andante, Capriccio and Humoresque”
for alphorn, piccolo, percussion and strings by twentieth century composer Jean Daetwyler.
Mr. Jostlein was named Assistant Principal Horn of the world-renowned New York Philharmonic in
September 2007. He previously held positions with the Honolulu, Omaha, Richmond and Kansas City symphony orchestras.
He won the grand prize at the Hugo Kauder Music Competition at Yale University in 2005 which earned him the
opportunity of performing a recital at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City.
Tricia Jostlein will join the Fox Valley Philharmonic in a performance of Wolfgang Mozart’s
“Horn Concerto #3.” Mrs. Jostlein, native of Lexington, Nebraska, received her early training at the Interlochen
Arts Academy in Michigan. In 1996 she completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Rice University's Shepherd School
of Music, where she studied with William VerMeulen, followed by graduate studies at the University of Michigan.
Ms. Jostlein has participated in numerous summer music festivals, including AIMS in Graz, Sarasota,
Tanglewood, National Repertory Orchestra, Bellingham Music Festival (American Sinfonietta), Pierre Monteux School,
and, most recently, the Peter Britt Festival in Oregon.
She previously served as Principal horn of the Omaha Symphony and Des Moines Metro Opera, as well
as second horn of the Richmond and Honolulu Symphonies. She is currently Co-principal horn of the Champaign-Urbana
Symphony, a position she shares with her husband, Thomas.
